With a career spanning twenty-odd years Kylie Minogue is an iconoclast that rivals Madonna, or is at least compared to the big M on more occasions than most, however Kylie is definitely a different kind of pop star, while Madonna is a blatant force, Kylie is gentler more subdued entertainer that is somewhat sweetly lighter and just as satisfying. What I love the most about Kylie is the fact that everything about her is pure pop and doesn't have the pretense of anything else (albeit Impossible Princess did vie for credibility with the indie crowd). That said, I realised I had not properly given my review of the the new record 'Aphrodite', so essentially that is what this post is about. From start to finish this album plays like 'Fever', there are no ballads, I repeat, THERE ARE NO BALLADS. This makes for a solid album from start to finish, the music works and Minogue knows what is a good fit for her voice so the album is effortlessly charming from start to finish. Hopefully with this project the audio-visual elements will compliment the project the way all her albums with Parlaphone have done to date (I wont even include X here, which seemed like a mash-up of every Kylie look and sound, and in my opinion not her strongest project). So what else can I say about the album that probably hasn't been said? I love it! It's mature, it's Kylie at her best. My favorite track hands down is Looking For An Angel. Go get a copy if you love unabashedly fun pop, I would say Gay, but that's a given when it comes to Kylie, even though anyone can appreciate this. Kylie Minogue Aphrodite
