LONDON -- Working Title is developing a live-action pic of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale "The Little Mermaid," with Joe Wright attached to helm.
The story, which has been adapted by Abi Morgan ("Brick Lane," "The Iron Lady"), was inspired by a production that The Little Angel Theater Company staged as part of their repertoire of children's tales using puppets.

The story, which centers on a young mermaid who gives up her life in the sea to gain the love of a prince, was first published in 1837 and has been adapted for the stage and screen numerous times.

This will be the first live-action feature film version to be made in the English language.

Wright previously worked with Working Title on his first three films, "Pride and Prejudice," "Atonement" and "The Soloist."

His most recent film, "Hanna," starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana, is in post-production.
